Max Hardy is a Director of Twyfords, an Australian consultancy specialising in designing, delivering and evaluating community engagement processes. Max is also a Master Trainer for the International Association for Public Participation (IAP2), establishing its Australasian chapter.

Along with his colleagues, he has developed and delivered development courses in facilitation and evaluation, including the first IAP2 Training Academy in Alberta, Canada (January 2005) and the first Academy in the UK (Edinburgh 2008).

With a particular interest in participatory democracy, Max has developed innovative models for community engagement for numerous projects related to social, infrastructure and environmental planning. He has presented and facilitated at numerous conferences around the world.

In 2005 Max played a major role in the preparation of the Brisbane Declaration on Community Engagement which was presented to the United Nations. Recently, Max co-authored the book Beyond Public Meetings: Connecting Community Engagement with Decision-Making.
